On the Evaluation of Academic Articles- The Purpose, Classification, Methods and Index System

Abstract: In the study field of humanities and social sciences, the general evaluation methods of academic articles are peer-review, the qualitative method and calculation of quotation, the quantitative method. Both of the above methods have advantages and limitedness, but none of them is replaceable. A scientific system of evaluation should be first structured based on the classification of the subjects and purposes. The system should have a comprehensive and complementary mechanism of adopting multi-subjects, multi-methods and an index reference. Considering the demand of classification and purpose of the subjects, the system also requires establishing the scientific evaluation indexes and the reasonable configuration of evaluation indexes of both qualitative and quantitative methods. The author proposes that different evaluation methods and index systems of academic articles should be established in the fields of managing scientific achievements in universities, academic awards, postgraduate education and the evaluation of professional title.
